The Roaring Road Book 1 is on the left below, with Laure in a red traveling suit getting off the Chicago & Alton Limited. When they first met, Laure tried to shoot Dan. Lucky for Dan, she moved her aim high at the last split second, because her father taught her how to shoot an M1911 Colt and she rarely missed her intended target. Good thing for the continuation of the story, and for their soon-to-be hot, sizzling romance. Warning: These are Prohibition era novels, so you will find sex and violence in an action/adventure thriller series. Like a wise woman once told me "If you hang around with owls, you should expect a certain amount of dead mice." Word!
The Roaring Road Book 2 is Laure with her glass of Champagne, Dan's new Duesenberg Model X Dual Cowl Phaeton, AT&SF Pacific 4-6-2 locomotive #3447, and the outline of the Santa Fe's Cherryvale Kansas train station in the background. She has come a long way from the naive girl in Book 1! Where the hell is Cherryvale Kansas, and what are Laure and Dan doing there? And why do both Hymie Weiss of Chicago's North Side and Al Capone of Chicago's South Side Outfits want to meet Laure and Dan? More important, will they survive the meetings?
Road Trip Blues has Laure on the cover, and now she is an assistant producer of the movie Road Trip Blues. She is also an actress of growing fame, having been a dancer in the first "The Great Gatsby" movie made in 1926. Dan hasn't been standing around either. When he's not busy rescuing Laure from the clutches of evil mobsters [and who is The Messenger Boy, and is he friend or foe?] Dan wrote the screenplay for Road Trip Blues and will be the director. Great, except for the fact that he became a Hollywood producer from an unintended consequence of a prank played at a Hollywood garden party, and knows nothing about the business, but they make important friends in Hollywood. Dan also learned how to make whiskey. Good whiskey, in fact, not the usual coffin varnish. Good whiskey has become quite in demand during Prohibition. Now you see why Laure and Dan need their own private train...
Featured in the books are locomotive #3447, Duesenbergs, wine & whiskey, The [real] Road Trip Dog, The Long Grove Village Tavern and Chicago's infamous Green Mill, where Dan and Laure dance and drink whenever they are in Chicago. The Green Mill and the Long Grove Village Tavern are real, and are still in business. If you go there and visit, it is easy to imagine Laure and Dan gliding around the dance floor, or Laure with her friend Louise Brooks up on the stage performing their wild and sexy Charleston.
